Maternity, Gynecology and Giving Birth in Budapest: Where Expat Families Deliver

Prenatal care, gynecology and deliveries under one roof at Hungary's only private hospital dedicated entirely to obstetrics and gynecology, with a full English-language site for international patients.

Good to know: The delivery package is paid in full on discharge and the clinic notes prices can differ if a guest doctor attends; there is a HUF 13,000 surcharge for an examination during duty hours and HUF 10,000 extra per examination when billing an insurer directly. Good to know: Add the doctor fees before you compare: Classic and Premium exclude your chosen obstetrician and midwife, priced at from HUF 300,000 and from HUF 200,000. A companion's overnight stay is from HUF 85,000 per night and the single room upgrade on Classic is HUF 300,000 for two nights. The group also appears internationally as Liv Duna Medical Center. Hungary's flagship university obstetrics department with its own neonatal intensive care unit; the Baross utca delivery unit has six delivery rooms plus a caesarean theatre, and the clinic keeps full English and German versions of its site.

Good to know: Free with TAJ; patients without Hungarian insurance are treated as paying clients via Semmelweis Medical Services Ltd, which does not publish a maternity price list online, so ask for a quote. The Baross utca unit states that one person chosen by the mother is always allowed to be present at the birth. The department runs two sites: Baross utca 27 and Ulloi ut 78/A (+36 1 459 1500, ext. 63815).

The big public maternity centre on the Buda side (building 11), with four single-bed delivery rooms plus a labour room, and 24-hour rooming-in so newborns stay with their mothers.

Good to know: Eight single and one two-bed higher-comfort rooms with shower, WC, fridge and TV can be rented, but the department does not publish the fee, so ask on arrival. The outpatient prenatal clinic sits at the Kutvolgyi Szakrendelo (1125 Budapest, Kutvolgyi ut 4, +36 1 356 8091, weekdays 8:00 to 18:00) and states that it treats only patients from its own catchment area, so check your address qualifies before planning to deliver here. Emergencies still go to Dios arok 1-3. Most information is in Hungarian.

Good to know: Comfort rooms cannot be reserved in advance: you ask on the day of the birth at the delivery room or admissions desk and pay up front at the hospital cashier, at least four nights' worth when the length of stay cannot be predicted, with any difference settled later. A partner may attend the birth but must buy the mandatory protective clothing set for HUF 3,500 from the machine opposite the delivery room. Preparation courses must be booked and paid by transfer in advance; attendees at least 35 weeks pregnant who plan to deliver here can tour the delivery room. Deliveries were suspended for a ventilation fault in July 2026 and the hospital announced normal operation again on 17 July 2026.

Good to know: This is not a place to give birth. As of August 2026 the hospital's own site lists prenatal care and gynecology but no obstetrics or birth packages, its published prenatal package runs only to week 36, and the old obstetrics and birth-package pages redirect to the homepage; third-party medical-tourism directories still say otherwise. Ask which price list applies to you, because the Hungarian prenatal package is HUF 800,000 while the English one is EUR 4,800.

Budapest's longest-running English-language clinic (founded 1999) near Szell Kalman ter, whose own site states that all staff including doctors speak English, with a 24-hour telephone line.

Good to know: Outpatient only, so a pregnancy can be followed here but the birth itself happens at a hospital. The published figures are indicative ranges effective from 1 January 2026 and the clinic says the final fee varies with first or follow-up visit, plan discounts, insurance billing and the length of the consultation. Appointment only.

American-style practice on the 2nd floor of the Rozsakert shopping centre with a dedicated Fetal Medicine Center, which says it is the only place in Hungary to routinely include a fetal heart ultrasound at 12 weeks.

Good to know: Outpatient and same-day surgery only, so pregnancies are followed here and the birth happens elsewhere. Popular with north Buda expat families because pediatrics runs under the same roof for after-birth follow-up; the clinic was fully renovated in 2025 with 26 consulting rooms, offers installment payment, and validates two hours of free parking in the shopping centre garage.

One of Buda's biggest private centres, next to Deli station, with a six-strong gynaecology team covering prenatal care, clinical genetics, endometriosis and gynae-oncology.

Good to know: Outpatient and surgical care only, with no delivery ward, so the birth happens elsewhere. The gynaecology examination fee includes an ultrasound if the specialist judges it necessary. Long opening hours: weekdays 06:30 to 20:00, Saturday 07:00 to 14:00.

Budget-friendlier gynecology and full pregnancy follow-up with a dedicated English booking line (+36 20 210 6486), useful for routine care between bigger hospital milestones.

Good to know: Outpatient only, so no births here. Gynecology runs at two sites, 1042 Budapest, Arpad ut 47 on the 3rd floor and 1141 Budapest, Bosnyak utca 48-50 (+36 20 250 9373). The website itself has no English pages, so use the English booking line; pregnancy care visits cost more than a standard consultation and extra tests are billed on top of the visit fee.

Birth educator and doula working in Budapest since 2003, registered with the UK Federation of Antenatal Educators, who states that she can help expats and foreigners giving birth in Hungary navigate the local medical system.

Good to know: Fees are quoted on request after a one-hour intro consultation whose fee is deducted from the course price if you go ahead. She splits her time between Bath in the UK and Budapest and the four-session course runs online, occasionally in person. Contact goes through email and the site form, and she warns that replies can land in spam.

Board-certified IBCLC lactation consultant who passed the international exam in 2024 and trained in part at the Maternity private hospital and Uzsoki hospital; her site states that every service is available in English as well as Hungarian.

Good to know: The in-person area advertised on her site is Erd, Diosd, Torokbalint, Budaors and Halasztelek rather than Budapest itself: travel is free within 15 km of Diosd and a fee is agreed by phone beyond that, so Budapest families often take the online consultation or come to her Diosdliget studio. Every consultation includes a written summary and a free 30-minute online follow-up within a week.
