International Grocery Shops in Budapest: Where to Find Food From Home

A wall-to-wall spice and sauce shop a minute from the Great Market Hall. The company frames its range by direction rather than by cuisine, Far East, Middle East, the New World and Old Europe, and the catalogue has separate shelves for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese, Indonesian, Indian, Mexican and African seasonings.

Good to know: Best for seasonings, sauces, pastes, rice, noodles and store-cupboard basics rather than a full weekly shop; expect small-shop prices and a very deep range. The site publishes hours for Mon 10:00 to 18:00, Tue to Fri 9:00 to 18:30 and Sat 9:00 to 15:00 and lists no Sunday, and the same company (Negy egtaj izei Kft.) runs the webshop under the Taste the World name, with ttworld.hu redirecting to the shop site.

The XV. district centre that holds Budapest's biggest retail Asian food cluster, where Lucky Panda Supermarket alone covers close to 500 square metres on the first floor of the east wing: Chinese, Korean and Japanese food, fresh and frozen Asian vegetables and seafood, sauces, noodles, rice, sake and rice wine.

Good to know: Shop hours are Mon to Fri 10:00 to 19:00, Sat 10:00 to 20:00 and Sun 10:00 to 19:00, with free parking and a free shuttle bus from several points in the XV. district; the centre traded as AsiaCenter until 1 October 2024. Beyond Lucky Panda the official tenant list shows K-Food, KIM CHI, Asia Food, Lam Anh, Hoang-My and two Asian discount grocers, so treat it as a cluster of shops rather than one store, and note the rest of the mall is ordinary fashion, fitness and fast food. The office line is answered Mon to Thu 8:00 to 17:00, Fri 8:00 to 14:00, Sat 10:00 to 20:00 and Sun 10:00 to 19:00.

The site that calls itself Budapest's Chinatown: over 300 wholesale showrooms and 70,000 square metres of warehousing, plus two Asian supermarkets and eighteen Chinese restaurants, with goods coming in directly from China, Vietnam, Turkey, Italy and Bangladesh.

Good to know: Warehouse-style and wholesale first, with clothing, footwear, textiles and electronics dominating the showrooms, so come for the two supermarkets and the food. Wholesale units run 8:00 to 17:00 Monday to Sunday and the restaurants 10:00 to 21:00; the site states that the showrooms and supermarkets close on Hungarian national holidays while the Chinese restaurants stay open as usual.

Trading on the Grand Boulevard since 2011, with the shop's own list running Pakistani, Indian, Iranian, Arab, South American and African food under one roof, plus the pots and pans to cook it in.

Good to know: A small shop, not a warehouse; open Mon to Fri 10:00 to 20:00 and Sat 10:00 to 17:00, closed Sunday, with sister branches in Debrecen (Darabos utca 4) and Szeged (Merey utca 6B) that keep different hours, and a site with a full English (UK) version.

Open every single day from 11:00 to 22:00, which makes it the rescue option when a working day has already eaten the normal shopping window.

Good to know: On the corner of Szondi utca and Sziv utca in the VI. district, a small walk-in shop with an Indian, Asian and African range and a site that switches to English. Do not count on ordering from it: the footer quotes a 2 to 3 day delivery time and the checkout runs on SimplePay, but in August 2026 the whole online catalogue was two categories, Liszt and Basmati Rizs, and both were filled with unrelated nail-care items rather than food, so go in person and phone ahead for anything specific.

A Turkish grocery and butcher on Baross utca which says more than 2,500 different lines are on the shelves in store, covering olives, tahini, dates, preserves, spices, soups, tea, coffee and artisanal Turkish desserts, with a webshop that switches to English.

Good to know: Check the halal question in person. The shop presents itself as a Turkish grocery and halal butcher on its own Facebook page, but turulmarket.hu makes no halal claim anywhere and the only halal-labelled goods among its 950-plus listed products are Haribo halal sweets, so ask at the counter about the slaughter and certification before you rely on it. Opening hours are still not published on the shop's own site and the third-party listings that carry hours contradict each other on Monday, so phone before a special trip; the site also warns that a large part of the in-store range has not been added to the webshop yet, so the shelves beat the website. The older domain torokelelmiszerbolt.hu now redirects here.

The only kosher grocery in the Chabad of Budapest food directory, a few steps from the Dohany Street Synagogue, described there as stocking essential groceries, household items, cleaning supplies and paper goods plus a curated range of premium Israeli products.

Good to know: Hours follow the Jewish week: Sunday 10:00 to 16:00, Monday to Thursday 8:00 to 17:00, Friday 8:00 to 16:00, closed Saturday. Be clear about the evidence here: the shop has no website of its own (koshermarket.hu does not resolve) and runs only a Facebook page, so the address, phone and hours above come from the Chabad of Budapest kosher directory, which publishes no supervision or hechsher details for any listing. Confirm the supervision you need with the shop before a large order. The same directory lists Uptown kosher bakery at Nagy Diofa utca 4.

Over 1,000 British lines a short walk from Jaszai Mari ter, covering teas, biscuits, cereals, sauces, crisps, confectionery and British ciders and beers, with a second shop in Gyor.

Good to know: A small shop with a serious webshop behind it; open Mon to Fri 10:00 to 19:00 and Sat 10:00 to 15:00, closed Sunday and public holidays. Home delivery is free in the I., V., VI., VII., VIII., XIII., XIV. and XVI. districts and parts of the II. and XII., and collection in store is free. A June 2026 notice on the site warns that chocolate is sensitive to summer heat and that the shop only accepts liability for melting or freezing damage on parcels it delivers itself in Budapest.

The downtown answer to a craving for a specific American chocolate bar, cereal or energy drink, with a separate British shelf for sweets, jams and teas and a Japanese snack section alongside.

Good to know: Confectionery, snacks and drinks rather than cooking ingredients, so do not come here for groceries; closed Mondays, open Tue to Sat 10:00 to 18:00 and Sun 10:00 to 17:00, with a webshop for the rest of the country.

The default expat delicatessen. The shop's own list of customer favourites runs Venchi, Rustichella, Kusmi, Citterio, Cluizel, Edmond Fallot, Garofalo, Maldon Salt, Kaviari, Perrier, Terre Exotique and Clase Azul, and the Mexican La Costena range turns up in store too.

Good to know: Two shops: Culinaris Pest at Balassi Balint utca 7 (Mon to Sat 9:00 to 20:00, Sun 10:00 to 18:00, +36 20 211 3193) and Culinaris Buda, listed as Culinaris Hegyvidek Kozpont, at 1124 Budapest, Apor Vilmos ter 11-12 (Mon to Sat 9:00 to 20:00, Sun 9:00 to 14:00, +36 20 213 7219). There is no webshop: orders go out through Wolt, and the wholesale arm links out to ChefMarket.

Italian food imported direct from Italy and sold on the first floor of the Mammut I mall, which makes it the strongest Italian option on the Buda side: pasta, oils, cheeses, cured meats, coffee, sweets and wine.

Good to know: Mall hours, so Mon to Sat 9:00 to 21:00 and Sun 10:00 to 18:00. Both the shop's own site and the Mammut tenant record give those hours and place the unit on the first floor of Mammut I, though the Mammut entry was last updated in November 2024, so the shop's own site is the one to trust. The clearest Latin American source in Budapest, with the food side split into store-cupboard staples, canned goods, salsas and dressings, frozen products, snacks, teas and herbs, soft drinks and alcohol.

Good to know: A small shop near Blaha Lujza ter and a webshop that ships in 1 to 2 working days, with card payment through SimplePay or cash on delivery. Opening hours are still not published on the site or anywhere first-party, and the site only says the phone is answered every day during shop hours, so call first. Note too that a good part of the range is clothing, jewellery, crafts and gifts rather than food.

Fifteen of the chain's seventeen shops are in Budapest, including Oktogon, Nyugati ter, Keleti, Jaszai Mari ter, Europeum, Margit korut, Moricz Zsigmond korter, MOM Park, Savoya Park, Huvosvolgyi ut, Zenit Corso and Arkad, which makes it the easiest organic shop to reach whichever side of the river you live on.

Good to know: Hours vary by branch: Oktogon runs Mon to Sat 8:00 to 20:00 and Sun 10:00 to 18:00, while Margit korut and Vaci ut close on Sundays. Strong on organic pantry goods, free-from ranges and supplements, thinner on fresh produce, and it is an organic shop rather than a world-food shop, so use it for gluten-free, vegan and specialist dry goods.

A package-free shop where grains, pulses, flours, pasta, spices, coffee, dried fruit, nut butters, oils and vinegars are weighed out into your own containers. The owners opened it in Ujbuda at the end of 2023 and moved it to a larger Ujlipotvaros unit in the summer of 2026, so ignore the old Szabolcska Mihaly utca address.

Good to know: Closed Monday and Sunday, open Tue to Fri 11:00 to 18:30 and Sat 10:00 to 14:00. Bring jars, boxes or cloth bags: containers are weighed and tared at the till, there are no minimum quantities, and if you turn up empty handed the shop says it can supply paper bags and, for cleaning refills, jam jars. Cash and cards both accepted. Useful for staples in the quantity you actually need rather than for imported world food.

An Asian webshop that switches to English, covering Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai noodles, sauces, snacks, sweets, drinks and tableware, delivered by DPD in 2 to 4 working days.

Good to know: Check the shipping fee at checkout, because the shop contradicts itself: the Hungarian version of its delivery page quotes HUF 1,990 to HUF 3,390 by weight while the English version of the same page quotes HUF 1,690 to HUF 2,790 for the identical weight bands. Collection at the partner shop Momoko, 1085 Budapest, Jozsef korut 46, open 11:00 to 18:00 daily, is listed as a delivery method with no fee attached, which makes it the cheapest way to use the shop if you live centrally.
