The dog boarding published on this page runs HUF 15,000 to 20,000 a day plus feeding, cat boarding starts at HUF 4,900 a day, a full groom starts at HUF 7,500 and private training at HUF 12,000 an hour; every price below comes from the provider's own published list, as of August 2026, and boarding is billed per day rather than per night.

Varosligeti Kutyas Elmenypark (City Park Dog Adventure Park)
PublicFree public dog parkXIV. District (Pest)
The best equipped dog park in the city: 5,280 square metres in three zones, with an agility course, a 70 square metre paddling pool and a sandy digging area, free and open around the clock.
Open 24 hoursFree entryFenced with four gatesAgility coursePaddling poolDigging areaWater fountains
Good to know: There is a second, quieter Varosliget dog park of about half a hectare near Ajtosi Durer sor and Stefania ut, split into separate small dog and large dog areas; the Hermina park is busy, with the operator reporting 750 to 800 dogs a day and up to 1,000 visitors on peak weekends, so a first visit off peak is wise for a nervous dog.
02
HEROSZ Budapesti Allatotthon
PrivateAnimal shelter and adoption centreXXII. District (Buda)
The capital's first animal home, open since 1991 on the Tetenyi plateau nature protection area in south Buda, and the classic Buda-side adoption route.
Dog adoptionCat adoptionVolunteeringVolunteer dog walkingOpen daily except Monday
Good to know: Open every day except Monday from 10:00 to 15:00, with meetings arranged by phone or email; the shelter adopts out against a one-off donation that generally covers the vet costs, only to adults who own their home, and cats only for indoor keeping. The HEROSZ head office is separate, at 1113 Budapest, Nagyszolos utca 21.
03
Noe Allatotthon Alapitvany (Noah's Animal Shelter)
PrivateLarge shelter and rescue foundationXVII. District (Pest)
Hungary's best known rescue foundation, running since 1992 and taking in far more than dogs and cats, with English and German versions of its site and dedicated breed rescue groups.
Dog adoptionCat adoptionFarm and exotic animalsSaturday open dayVolunteeringBreed rescue groups
Good to know: Open Monday to Saturday 9:30 to 15:30 and Sunday 10:00 to 14:00, and anyone arriving with an animal must call first. Dog walking is only possible on the Saturday open days, roughly 10:30 to 13:00, and photo ID is required. Cat adoption runs on its own line and its own hours (Monday and Friday 10:00 to 14:00, Wednesday 10:00 to 13:00, Saturday 10:00 to 14:00); the shelter asks that adoption questions go by phone, not email. The English and German versions of the site are real, but the phone lines are answered by rotating volunteers and the shelter says it has no internet connection on site, so do not count on being answered in English.

Vigyel Haza Alapitvany
PrivateVolunteer dog rescue and rehomingIX. District (Pest)
A volunteer foundation that finds homes for around a hundred Budapest street dogs a year, working out of the city's municipal pound on Illatos ut and a network of foster homes.
Dog adoptionRehoming from the city poundNeutering campaignsFunding vet treatmentFoster homesVolunteering
| Adoption fee at the Illatos ut pound, as quoted by the foundation | HUF 6,000 covering the combined vaccination, the worming and the microchip |
Good to know: The Illatos ut site is the municipal pound, not a shelter: the foundation explains that a stray is held 15 days for its original owner, after which anyone may adopt, while owner-surrendered dogs can go straight away. Adopters must be over 18 with ID and an address card, and should bring their own collar and lead or a carrier. Phone lines run Monday to Thursday 10:00 to 17:00 and Friday 10:00 to 14:00, and the foundation asks for calls from numbers that are not withheld.

Cicapanzio Budapest (Macskaszallo)
PrivateCattery and cat sittingII. District (Buda)
A dedicated cattery rather than a dog kennel with a cat corner, with a Buda site in the II. district and a Pest site in the VII., plus a cat sitting option if your cat travels badly.
Cat boardingCat sitting at your homeTwo Budapest sitesOwn food optionPhoto and video updates
| One cat, owner's own food | HUF 4,900 per day |
| One cat, food provided | HUF 5,500 per day |
| Two cats sharing a kennel, owner's own food | HUF 8,500 per day, plus HUF 1,500 per day if the cattery feeds them |
| Cat sitter visit (about 2 to 3 hours) | from HUF 7,800 per visit |
Good to know: The second site is at 1078 Budapest, Nefelejcs utca 56. Rates are quoted as a daily fee and the site renders them as animated counters, so they can read oddly on a slow connection; the page title still advertises an older starting figure of HUF 4,300, and the current published rates are the ones listed here. A booking needs a 50 percent deposit that is not refunded, though it can be used within 365 days if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. One day's fee covers you until noon the next day, checkout between 12:00 and 15:00 adds half a day and after 15:00 a full day. Open Monday to Friday 9:00 to 19:00 and weekends and holidays 9:00 to 12:00, visits by appointment, and first-time guests must send photos of the vaccination book or pet passport.

ATTS Airport Allatpanzio
PrivateCat and dog boarding near the airportXVIII. District (Pest)
A small boarding house in Pestszentlorinc a few minutes from Liszt Ferenc airport, handy if you fly out early and want to drop the animal on the way; the branding and almost all the detail on the site are about cats, with dogs mentioned but not described.
Cat boardingDog boardingIndividual roomsLong stay discountsClose to the airport
| Cat boarding | HUF 6,000 per day |
Good to know: The published HUF 6,000 a day is the cat rate. Dog boarding is advertised but quote-based, with no price, photos or house rules on the site, so ask what a dog stay actually includes. Longer stays get a discount on request. Cats are housed individually to avoid injuries, outdoor cats must have a valid rabies vaccination, a flea treatment is compulsory and male cats must be neutered. Book and view the place by phone before arriving, and do not feed the cat in the few hours before drop-off.

Packages are paid upfront within three days of booking and carry validity windows of one to three months, instalments are possible by agreement, cancelling inside 24 hours costs the full fee and inside 48 hours half, and the cooperative care track is aimed at dogs that panic at the vet or the groomer rather than at basic obedience.

PrivateDog and cat grooming salonXV. District (Pest)
A straightforward suburban salon in Rakospalota that prices purely by weight band rather than by breed, which makes it the easiest place on this page to estimate a bill in advance; its own site carries a Google badge showing 4.9 from 71 reviews.

Good to know: The price list runs from 1 October 2025 and every figure is a from-price that moves with coat condition and behaviour; a flea-ridden, neglected or unmanageable coat carries a surcharge from HUF 4,000, and there is no half hour unit here. The salon is closed Sunday and Monday, and open Tuesday to Friday 9:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 9:00 to 13:00, by appointment only. Bebicsosz.hu pet sitters
OnlinePet sitter and dog walker marketplaceOnline
The practical answer to a two week holiday: a sitter marketplace with a full English interface, listing 270 pet sitters within 4 km of central Budapest with rates, reviews and ID checks on each profile.
Pet sittingDog walkingOvernight careCat visitsVerified profilesRatings and reviews
| Sitter hourly rates listed in Budapest | HUF 2,000 to 4,800 per hour |
| Sitter daily rates listed in Budapest | HUF 2,400 to 24,000 per day |
Good to know: Rates are set by each sitter, not the platform, so the range above is only what the Budapest results page showed in August 2026 and it moves as sitters join and leave; there is a filter for people who state that they speak English, and profiles are worth reading in full before booking. The platform advertises ID verification and insurance cover, but the contract is with the sitter, so agree keys, feeding and vet permissions in writing before you fly.
Ratings, prices and details were last checked in August 2026 from each provider's public pages, Google Maps and Trustpilot; they change, so always confirm directly with the provider before booking or paying. Listings are editorial picks, not paid placements, and this page is general information, not medical, financial or legal advice.
