Medical Labs and Diagnostics in Budapest: Blood Tests, MRI and STD Testing Compared

Good to know: Two caveats the price list spells out: the published prices apply to clients with Medicare insurance or a valid Hungarian TAJ number and may differ if you have neither, and an English-language specialist examination costs an extra HUF 9,000 while the written report is still issued in Hungarian. Good to know: Budapest draw sites listed on its own site include Ó utca 44 (VI.), Lövőház utca 1-5. at Mammut (II.), Megyeri út 53. (IV.), Váci út 144-150. (XIII.) and Szentmihályi út 131. (XV.); the Hungarian site is the working one (group info in English sits on synlab.com), phone support runs weekdays 8:00 to 16:00, and blood-draw and self-sampling items cannot be bought in the same order.

Good to know: Package prices above are the list published as effective from February 1, 2026. Good to know: Medicare bought Affidea Magyarország in 2026 (reported by Portfolio and Economx; Affidea's own site still carries no notice of it), and the brand continues for now. A guaranteed report within 4 hours is available on selected examinations but only if you book by phone. The corporate site www.affidea.hu could not be loaded during this check, so the diagnostics site linked here is the one to use; the site is Hungarian only.

Good to know: You take the images away on a CD or pendrive straight after the scan, but the written report takes roughly 3 to 5 working days. Patients with a pacemaker cannot be scanned here at all, per the center's MRI page. The clinic also states that a TAJ number is required to start care for Hungarian citizens, while foreign nationals without one are recorded by passport number.

Good to know: The open MRI has hard limits: no scan above 120 kg, and the chest or abdomen cannot exceed 30 cm in height lying down. A native scan can be booked on your own initiative, but a contrast scan needs an original written specialist recommendation, so bring it or you will be sent home. The written report takes 3 to 5 working days and the price does not include a radiologist consultation about it. Weekend hours differ between the site's own pages (homepage says 7:00, the MRI page says 9:00), so confirm when you book.

Budget imaging without a referral at three Budapest sites (Dózsa György út 150. in XIII., Megyeri út 53. in IV., Fehérvári út 12. in XI.), with a full price list valid from June 1, 2026.

Good to know: Standard MR, CT and X-ray reports usually take about three working days because reporting is done remotely; paying HUF 12,000 buys a report by the end of the next working day. The Siemens MR table takes up to 200 kg with a 60 cm bore, small children can be scanned, and claustrophobic patients get a mirror system plus a hand pump to stop the scan, but pacemaker wearers cannot enter the room. Contrast scans need a kidney lab result no older than one month. The site is Hungarian only.

Good to know: Prices are quote-based: the site says the listed figures are indicative and the exact fee comes in a personal quote, with euro payments converted at 1 EUR = 340 HUF. MR runs both at Korányi Sándor utca 2. and at the Városmajor heart clinic (1122 Budapest, Városmajor utca 68.). There is an English section of the site, but it is built around university students and foreign clients rather than the full price list, so confirm in English by phone before booking.

Good to know: Prices are published only as typical ranges, effective January 1, 2026, and sit at the premium end, so ask for the figure for your specific test before you commit; a GP or internist consultation alone is listed at HUF 46,000 to 204,000.

Good to know: Standard results take up to 3 to 4 days and are emailed and uploaded to EESZT; a rush result the same day, in as little as 3 hours, costs an extra HUF 10,000. Anonymous screening costs HUF 5,000 on top of the test, and A2GEN warns that the anonymous result is not a full-value report because it carries no identifying data, so it may not be accepted where an official lelet is required. The website is Hungarian only, so call if you need English.

Fully anonymous sexual health testing at the Karolina clinic with no name, ID or TAJ number required, booked under an alias (jelige), and an English and French version of the site.

Good to know: Do not assume you will get the free test: the service states that it now screens with rapid tests in nearly all cases and keeps the free laboratory HIV screening for justified cases or to confirm a non-negative rapid result, so bring cash for the HUF 4,000 per pathogen rapid test, which the site describes as a donation covering costs. The rapid result comes in about 20 minutes and you must wait for it; a laboratory result takes 7 to 8 days. The service is run by a registered association funded largely by donations, and the clinic opens on weekday afternoons only (Friday mornings), so check the hours page before going.

A nurse comes to your home or office anywhere in Budapest and Pest county, and the published Budapest prices already include the call-out, sampling, transport and lab fees.

Good to know: The call-out is only included at the Budapest prices shown, and a cheaper HUF 17,000 routine offer is advertised with the call-out charged separately, so confirm which applies. The brand is operated by A-Lab (Arvali Kft. and A-Lab Medical Kft. of the ArvaliGroup), whose terms state that pricing varies with location and logistics and can be changed unilaterally, so get the fee confirmed in writing. Mobile-only service with no walk-in site; the website is Hungarian only and advertises results as soon as the same day, so have a Hungarian-speaking contact or a translation app ready when booking.
