Gyms and Fitness in Budapest: Prices and Contracts Compared

The pass most employed expats actually use: one monthly fee valid at around 700 facilities and 130 towns nationwide, covering 200 activity types from gyms to pools, climbing walls and yoga.

Good to know: The 2026 flyer confirms the loyalty period to 31 December 2026, with the monthly fee due whether you train or not, and lists K&H, MBH and OTP SZEP cards, Rewin and cash among the payment methods; the customer office is at 1053 Budapest, Karolyi utca 12. (Ybl Palota), open Monday to Thursday only. The eligibility rules are shakier ground: the English engagement agreement AYCM publishes is the 2020 edition, and it is the only first-hand source for the requirements of a registered full-time job, a Hungarian tax ID and an employer, and for the exclusion of students, pensioners and registered competitive athletes. Ask AYCM or your HR department to confirm the 2026 wording.

The big mainstream chain, with an English site and English price lists, and a one-off First monthly pass at HUF 21,999 that anyone who has never held a Life1 pass can buy.

Good to know: Life1's own pages disagree on how big the chain is, so read the pass, not the logo wall: the site lists eight locations, but the Allee price list says passes give "passthrough among all 6 of our Life1 Fitness clubs", and Prestige sits on a separate website, so ask which clubs the pass you are buying actually opens. Prices also differ between pages, the printed list showing a First monthly pass at HUF 21,999 while the home page advertises a Holiday First promotion at HUF 19,999, so quote the cheaper offer at the desk and see if it still stands. Read the small print too: the monthly membership subscription debits your card automatically and is "valid until cancelled", and it carries a one-time registration fee of HUF 12,000 (Allee and Vaci35) or HUF 15,000 for the six-club version, waived only for First pass holders. Saunas exist only at Corvin, Etele, Nyugati and Springday, lockers need your own padlock everywhere except Corvin and Springday, the yearly pass is HUF 294,999 at Allee and Vaci35 or HUF 329,999 elsewhere, and OTP, MBH and K&H SZEP cards are accepted. Allee opens 6:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and 8:00 to 22:00 at weekends.

Genuinely open 0 to 24 every day on the ground floor of Lurdy-haz, with a large gym floor, Finnish sauna and ice bath included in every ticket, plus a separate Fight Club room.

Good to know: The former Scitec Gold Fitness Club, now trading as The Legend Budapest on the same site; the lower of the two listed prices is a loyalty rate you keep only by renewing on or before the expiry day, the membership card costs HUF 1,000, and AYCM is accepted from the L package upward for a fitness day ticket or a group class, alongside Edenred and OTP, K&H and MKB SZEP cards. Fight Club tickets cover room entry only, with class fees paid to the coach.

Cheap all-in pricing in Obuda: one HUF 23,900 monthly pass covers unlimited gym, cardio, group classes, the CrossFit room and the saunas, with several entries a day allowed.

Good to know: The HUF 2,490 club card is compulsory with any pass of one month or longer and is what lets you enter on your own and lock a locker, so budget for it on top of the first month; pass freeze insurance is sold separately and buys one stop of up to 15 days on a monthly pass (HUF 4,900), two stops up to 30 days on a three month pass (HUF 9,900) or three stops up to 60 days on an annual (HUF 19,900). Several headline figures are cut prices shown as "instead of" a higher list price, the 12 month pass at HUF 169,900 against a list of HUF 239,000 being the largest, so check whether the offer is still running when you buy. Open 7:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and 8:00 to 20:00 at weekends.

Good to know: Priced like a private club rather than a gym, and there is no cheap monthly option on the webshop, so the realistic entry point is the three month pass at HUF 295,000; tickets and passes include towels, sauna sheets, free childcare and four hours of parking, and vouchers must be redeemed within three months of purchase. Open 6:00 to 22:30 on weekdays and 8:00 to 20:00 at weekends. The club publishes no SZEP card statement, so confirm payment methods before buying.

Good to know: The price list says outright that SZEP cards cannot be used here ("Szep kartyaval nem lehet fizetni!"), so plan another payment method; the student rate needs a photo full-time student card and applies up to age 24, classes and personal or small group training cost extra on top of the room entry, and the Finnish sauna, showers, valuables store and private parking come free with a ticket. Hours are 6:00 to 22:00 on weekdays, 8:00 to 22:00 on Saturday and 8:00 to 20:00 on Sunday.

Good to know: Memberships cannot be extended or refunded and are non-transferable, so a 31 day pass you do not use is money gone; SZEP card and cash are both accepted, and AYCM packages from M upward and Multisport Pass cards unlock the discounted column. The price list states it has been valid since 1 September 2024, so it is stable but worth confirming. The other two sites are at 1094 Budapest, Marton utca 4. and 1135 Budapest, Szegedi ut 48. Start with the beginner course rather than dropping into a class cold.

A central Pest box a short walk from the Nyugati and Lehel ter area, with an 11 plus 1 session beginner block at HUF 30,000 before you join regular classes.

Good to know: Memberships cannot be suspended ("Berletek felfuggesztesere nincs lehetoseg"), and the only relief is one extension a year of at most a week for illness or holiday, which has to be requested in advance, so a long trip mid-pass is largely lost time; AYCM cards from M to XXL are accepted but only as a card swipe plus a supplementary fee, for example a day entry at one swipe plus HUF 4,000 or 30 days unlimited at one swipe plus HUF 30,000. The site and coaching are in Hungarian, so ask by email at [email protected] before turning up if your Hungarian is thin.

Over 1,500 square metres of climbable wall across two rooms, with more than 100 routes up to 15 metres high plus a bouldering room and a separate children's area.

Good to know: Out in Ujpest rather than the centre, so factor in the metro ride; a HUF 12,000 VIP membership valid for 360 days cuts the price of every ticket and pass, and rope climbing needs either a partner who can belay or a course first.

Two minutes from Blaha Lujza ter, with every trainer speaking English and no obligation to spar at any session, which makes it an unusually easy first boxing gym.

Good to know: Cash only on site, you must book every session in advance, and cancellations are only possible up to 8 hours before the class; passes expire after 5 weeks. There is no free trial session, so your first visit means buying a day ticket. Group hobby boxing is from age 14, or from 10 with the trainer's agreement, and the discounted HUF 3,000 ticket applies only to the 8:00 and 15:00 sessions.

Four studios (Oktogon, Blaha, Hegyvidek and Huvosvolgy) on one pass, a free first class for anyone who has never been, and teachers who run classes in English or bilingually, including an Ashtanga beginners course advertised as English only.

Good to know: Not every class is in English, so check the timetable and the teacher before booking; SZEP cards from OTP, MKB and K&H are accepted at all four studios with all sub-accounts usable, and the 10 class pass stays valid for two months rather than one. The free first class and the HUF 9,000 opening month are standing promotions restricted to people who have never practised at DownDog, and passes cannot be extended once they lapse, so watch the expiry date. The Oktogon studio is on the second floor at Eotvos utca 26/c, doorbell 17, not at street level.

A municipal facility run by the Hegyvidek (XII. district) local authority, with a proper swimming pool, sports hall and pitches at public rather than private club prices.

Good to know: Prices are published only as downloadable image price lists in Hungarian, English and German rather than as a web page; the figures above are from the English sheet valid from 1 June 2026, so check the current image or the webshop before you go. AYCM SportPass XL and XXL cards are valid, one entry a day for two hours, with an extra ticket needed between 10:00 and 16:00 at weekends and on public holidays. Nothing on the site or the price list says whether SZEP cards are taken, so ask at reception rather than assuming. Passes cannot be extended or refunded, a Hegyvidek Card cuts several prices, and the pool opens 6:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and 8:00 to 20:00 at weekends.

The best value serious swim in Buda: a city-run sport zone open from 6:00, a two hour sport ticket at HUF 3,600, and free weekday entry on an AYCM card.

Good to know: The sport zone runs 6:00 to 20:00 daily and to 22:00 on Wednesday, reachable by the Szentendre HEV; SZEP cards from all three banks are accepted, III. district residents get 10 percent off day tickets with an address card, and the Budapest Spas Bronze pass (HUF 150,000 for 100 visits) covers this pool plus Rudas, Dandar, Romai and Punkosdfurdo. Energy saving measures can suspend saunas and extras in extreme heat.
